Nick Shiambouros returns to Aintree with a National selection and a strong fancy for the long distance hurdle...
"He has risen in the weights but loves Aintree and looks sure to make a bold bid"
Wholestone should go close in this fascinating long distance hurdle.
He carried my money when finishing an excellent third to Penhill in the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham last month. He kept on well in the closing stages and snatched a place close home. This talented gelding is a strong traveler in his races, and will benefit from a truly run race. At present he is trading at [4.2] on the exchange which is more than fare.
Sam Spinner is the short priced favourite at [2.56]. He finished behind the selection at Cheltenham, but was not suited by the steady pace. He has an abundance of stamina, and will make a bold bid from the front.
Blaklion should run well in this historic race.
Last year this smart performer finished fourth to One For Arthur. He was headed on the run to the last but kept on well to hold on to a place. In December he won the Beecher Chase in testing conditions and will encounter similar ground today. He has risen in the weights but loves Aintree and looks sure to make a bold bid. At present he is trading at [17.5] on the exchange and have backed him at that price.
The mare Baie Des IIes could run well at a decent price. She has proven form on the ground, and caught the eye behind Folsom Blue at Punchestown in February. At present she is trading at [20.0] on the exchange, and is worth a saver at that price.
