"If she is race-fit after her lay-off then Winter’s Forge could well take this before going on to compete in all the better races this season."
Pacific Trader ran an amazing race on his debut for Brett Crawford when beaten less than half a length on his debut here over course and distance by the useful Pata Pata, and the son of Sail From Seattle won't remain a maiden very much longer if building on that effort. He may not improve quite as much as some think after being sent off at odds of 14/10 suggesting he was expected to run well regardless, but he did show signs of inexperience and with that run under his belt, Pacific Trader will prove very hard to beat this morning.
Sergeant Hardy stands out in this top-class sprint with the superb form of the Justin Snaith horses an added bonus. After winning a Pinnacle Stakes by less than half a length here over course and distance in October he was a three length eighth to Silicone Valley in the Grade Two Cape Merchants, but bounced back last time with a comfortable success here in Listed class, and if he can improve again as expected then Sergeant Hardy can come home in front under Corne Orffer.
Winters Force - 16:00 (GMT) Turffontein
Winter's Forge has to be seen as a tentative selection after eight months off the track but what she has shown is top class and she is well worth the risk. A maiden win at Vaal was followed by a length second to Green Plains here over course and distance in a Grade Two Nursery that has worked out ridiculously well, and if she is race-fit after her lay-off then Winter's Forge could well take this before going on to compete in all the better races this season.
