Sandown Placepot: Saturday April 25

Saturday's Placepot attempt comes from Sandown
Saturday's Placepot attempt comes from Sandown

An emotional day at Sandown also provides a very competitive National Hunt card and that is where we head for today's Placepot attempt.

"He was a winner on his only visit to this track on the flat off a mark of 80 and will be competitive here if recapturing his early season form."

14:00 - Based on the way Alzammaar finished at Newbury over a trip two furlongs longer than this he may be worth taking on here with Lil Rockerfeller, who was eventually an easy 6 length winner at Ascot last time over two miles after racing lazily during the race. Sean Bowen is an eye-catching booking to offset his 8lb rise and he should go close if his temperament holds. This assignment is much less competitive than the Fred Winter and it could be worth giving Sebastian Beach another chance from a 5lb lower mark here. Prior to the festival he had some good pieces of form including when behind subsequent Adonis winner Beltor at Ludlow. He was a winner on his only visit to this track on the flat off a mark of 80 and will be competitive here if recapturing his early season form.

14:35 - Al Ferof had a breathing operation prior to Aintree and perhaps found the track a little sharp, he will be more suited by today's test at the track where he won a Grade 1 as a novice over two miles. He is more lightly raced than most of his opponents today and if he returns to the form of his Ascot romp in November he will be hard to beat here.

15:15 - Vibrato Valtat has seen plenty of racing this season, but he seems to thrive on being active and is worth chancing again here in a race where plenty have something to prove. He probably paid the price in the Arkle for keeping tabs on Un De Sceaux as the race developed, and last time out he was not necessarily suited by the longer trip. A strongly run two miles could be exactly what he needs and he is already a winner at Grade 1 level at the course. Somersby is hard to win with but rarely runs a bad race at this track, as he showed when he was second in this year's Tingle Creek behind the top two miler this season Dodging Bullets, he will likely be in the mix at the finish.

15:50 - Le Reve's run style suits Sandown and he has won both of his last two visits to the course. He was strong at the finish last time here over five furlongs shorter than this and will certainly be a player from an 8lb higher mark. Guess Again appeared to be going with more zest on his first start for his new yard in the Kim Muir, only to unseat just as the race was developing. He may be capable from this mark if the yard switch has indeed prompted some improvement and Paul Townend is an excellent booking.

16:25 - The form from Wilberdragon's Market Rasen success looks good, with the third running well from a higher mark twice since and he should be very competitive off a 7lb higher mark with the step up in trip expected to suit. At a bigger price Party Rock is also worth including, putting in another good performance at Aintree when sixth in a competitive handicap last time out where he fared best of the prominent runners, therefore given some extra credit. His prominent run style will suit Sandown and he may scrape into the places here.

17:00 - There may be more to come from The Ould Lad from this mark, he shaped better than the result in a messy Kim Muir at the Festival and as a strong traveler who has won over this trip the drop back in distance should prove no problem. Horizontal Speed ran a huge race from the front at the Festival from a 4lb lower mark than this and will come here relatively fresh after falling very early next time out, he should be in the mix.

14:00 - 3, 6
14:35 - 1
15:15 - 4, 7
15:50 - 7, 19
16:25 - 3, 7
17:00 - 1, 8
