Through the Card: Sandown, Thursday 30 May

Sandown stages an interesting card on Thursday evening

Timeform take you through the card at Sandown on Thursday evening...

"...shaped well in a competitive handicap at Chester last time and can come good again now stepping up in trip."

Timeform on Seeusoon

17:55 - DIVINE COVEY (3) makes the most appeal on pedigree and represents a Richard Hannon yard well capable of readying a newcomer (won this race with Dame Liberty (2014) and Grizzel (2016), neither of whom were superstars). She's the first foal of a dam who stayed 1m but won over 6f on debut as a two-year-old (half-sister to useful 6f winner Instalment), while her sire Dark Angel won over 5f as a youngster, so she's bred to be sharp. Sneaky is expected to fare much better than on debut and the speedily-bred Multiply By Eight also appeals as an interesting one first time out.

18:30 - Timeform top-rated (and 'Horse In Focus') SEEUSOON (5) shaped well in a competitive handicap at Chester last time and can come good again now stepping up in trip. The well-backed Rowland Ward appeals as the sort to build on his Doncaster handicap debut win, where he looked one to follow, and can give Andrew Balding's charge most to think about.

19:05 - The Andrew Balding-trained FOX LEICESTER (2) has been running well in much stronger contests than this since winning at Chelmsford back in March, so is taken to capitalise on the drop in class. 'Horse In Focus' Hold Still, who didn't need to improve when winning at Kempton last time, should go on improving this season, while handicap debutants Eardley Road and Sparkle In His Eye are others of interest.

19:35 - Bottom-weight POUR ME A DRINK (6) was really strong at the finish when making a successful handicap debut over an extended mile at Haydock a month ago and the handicapper looks to have underestimated him with a 4 lb rise. He looks the sort to keep on the right side of, likely to improve again over this longer trip. Sameem is likely to give another good account from the front and is feared most, though he will have Albert Finney to see off early which could make life tougher.

20:10 - 'Horse In Focus' MAIDEN CASTLE (10) confirmed his debut promise when just denied on return at Chepstow, beaten only by a subsequent listed winner and clear of the rest, and gets the vote with likely main dangers Pondus and Gold Stick both carrying 7 lb penalties. The last-named is especially respected. He showed much improved form to get off the mark at Wetherby last time and though not the biggest, he is well bred and in excellent hands, so is likely to progress further.

20:40 - The progressive HALLALULU (6) improved markedly for the switch to handicaps/step up in trip last summer, landing back-to-back 1m events, her strength at the finish evident on each occasion. A subsequent stable switcher (Ed Dunlop to William Haggas), she promises to do better still now her stamina is drawn out further and earns the vote. New Jazz (who should improve plenty now stepped back up in trip), Dubrava and Chicago Doll head up the dangers in a competitive fillies' contest.
