Flat racing returns to Sandown on Friday

Timeform take you through the card at Sandown on Friday.

13:50 - A race full of well-bred, unexposed sorts but the one that stands out is Dante/Derby entrant ATTY PERSSE (6), who won his maiden over this trip on his sole two-year-old start and is open to significant improvement on that here. A mark in the mid-80s could well be on the lenient side based on his superb pedigree, and he is worth banking on in the opener to make the places for a yard in red-hot form.

14:20 - My Dream Boat sets the standard here on his Group 1 win last season, but there are a couple of horses in this field who may well go on to prove themselves as top-level horses this season, those being ROYAL ARTILLERY (7) and ULYSSES (8), who both look the types to carry on developing as four-year-olds this season. The former's third to last season's champion three-year-old Almanzor on his last start catches the eye, while the latter - an exuberant sort - should have no problem dropping back to ten furlongs here, having made the frame in the Breeders' Cup Turf when last seen.

14:55 - MONARCHS GLEN (5) bolted up on his handicap debut at Kempton 16 days ago, and will be very hard to beat if taking another step forward here, given that he is less exposed than both of the other Frankels in the race, Cunco and Frankuus. His front-running style will see him to good effect at this track, especially in a small field, and he is expected to win this.

15:30 - There is a slight concern that KOOL KOMPANY (4) is at his very best when fresh (last two wins have come on his reappearance), but in a race where he may well get an easy time of things on the front-end, he looks worth including in what is a sub-standard Group 2 event. A number of Charles Hills' horses are running well on their returns, and JALLOTA (3) is also worth including at a bigger price. He was beaten plenty in domestic Group 3/Group 2s last season, but is a consistent sort, and could have been found a good opportunity here to land a first Group 2 win.

16:05 - HYPERFOCUS (6) pulled his chance away on his reappearance at Kempton last time (well backed), but is worth another chance down in trip here, especially as he can make use of stall 1, provided he gets away sharply under James Doyle. With the likes of Partitia (draw way out in stall 10) currently ahead of him in the market, he is worth backing.

16:35 - Ralph Beckett won this race in 2014 and 2016, so LOVE CONQUERS (3), a sister to Japanese Derby winner Deep Brillante, must be respected. Of those with previous experience, SERENADA (7) is probably the most interesting, having finished third - despite being green under pressure - on debut behind a useful prospect at Newbury last season. She is definitely bred to appreciate the step up in trip (dam unraced close relative to St Leger winner Conduit).

17:10 - The valuable maiden that Naseem won at Chelmsford by five lengths in December has proven strong form since, with several winners emerging from in behind him, and he looks to have obvious claims from an opening handicap mark that could well underestimate him.

Win back HYPERFOCUS in the 20:15
