14:30 - RIBCHESTER (13) proved better than ever when winning the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury last time, travelling strongly on the front end throughout and quickly forging clear in the closing stages. That form leaves him 6 lb clear of the field on Timeform ratings here and, while the quicker ground is a slight concern, Ribchester rates by far the most solid proposition for Placepot purposes and can confirm his standing as the leading miler in Europe.

15:05 - BROTHER BEAR (3) was a decisive winner of his racecourse bow at Leopardstown in May and showed the benefit of that initial experience when following up in a listed race at the Curragh last time. He looked potentially smart when forging clear in the closing stages that day and, with the possibility of more to come after just two starts, Brother Bear looks a worthy favourite in this second leg of the Placepot and can provide the Jessica Harrington yard with a first Royal Ascot winner.

15:40 - GOLDREAM (5) fared better than the bare result when second in the Temple Stakes at Haydock last time, forced to deliver his challenge from further back than ideal after a slow start and doing well in the circumstances to be beaten just half a length. He certainly showed enough to suggest he is as good as ever at the age of eight and is taken to repeat his 2015 victory in this race for trainer Robert Cowell. He is joined in the Placepot by WASHINGTON DC (14), who is consistent and should get a good tow into the race from his high draw, with Lady Aurelia drawn in the next stall.

16:20 - BARNEY ROY (1) was unsuited by how the race developed when second on his most recent outing in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, becoming unbalanced as the field entered the final two furlongs and ultimately doing well to get within a length of the reopposing Churchill. He remains with potential after just three starts and, with a return to this more conventional track also expected to suit, Barney Roy is fancied to reverse the placings and can gain a first victory at the top level.

17:00 - MAGIC CIRCLE (7) really caught the eye when two and a quarter lengths fifth on his most recent outing in the Chester Cup and remains potentially very well treated from the same mark here. Indeed, that form gives him the edge over Who Dares Wins on Timeform ratings and, with the step up to this trip expected to see him in an even better light, Magic Circle would appear to hold sound claims and can give trainer Ralph Beckett a winner with his only runner on this afternoon's card at Ascot.

17:35 - DECLARATIONOFPEACE (10) built on the promise of his debut when getting off the mark at Dundalk earlier this month, travelling strongly in the leaders' slipstream from the outset and quickly putting six lengths between himself and the second in the closing stages. He looks destined for better things on that evidence and should prove extremely difficult to beat in this concluding leg of the Placepot. SIMMY'S COPSHOP (19) wasn't seen to best effect when third on soft ground at Naas last time and is also considered with the Placepot in mind.

Recommendation:

Win back BARNEY ROY in the 16:20 at Ascot
Win back MAGIC CIRCLE in the 17:00 at Ascot

Placepot permutation:

14:30 - 13
15:05 - 3
15:40 - 5, 14
16:20 - 1
17:00 - 7
17:35 - 10, 19
