14:05 - An entry in next year's Derby would suggest that AUSTRIAN SCHOOL (3) has been showing the right signs in his homework. He certainly wouldn't need to be out of the ordinary to make a winning debut and the hint should be taken if the market vibes are upbeat. Cosa Nostra has the best form and is feared most in this opening leg of the Placepot.
14:40 - MAGICAL EFFECT (12) showed improved form to resume winning ways on his most recent outing at Redcar and remains potentially very well treated from just 7 lb higher in the weights. Indeed, that form leaves him 2 lb clear of the field on Timeform ratings this afternoon and he looks a worthy favourite for the Ruth Carr yard, even if this does represent a more competitive race than last time. THE ARMED MAN (19) is thriving at present (four wins from his last six starts and also makes plenty of appeal with the Placepot in mind.
15:15 - ROBERO (11) has improved markedly this year and his latest effort when two and three quarter lengths fifth in the valuable Bunbury Cup at Newmarket was arguably his best yet. He looks the one to beat in this third leg of the Placepot. SHANGHAI GLORY (5) will be very high on the shortlist if the word 'soft' appears in the going description, while Richard Fahey fields live contenders in George Bowen and Growl. Course specialist Pipers Note is also considered in a typically competitive renewal of the Great St Wilfrid.
15:50 - SIMMY'S COPSHOP (3) produced a fairly useful level of form when second on his penultimate start at Deauville and would appear to hold sound claims if arriving in the same mood this afternoon. He needs to bounce back from a below-par effort at Newbury last time, but has far more experience than his two rivals in this field and is fancied to put that to good use for a yard with a terrific record in this race.
16:25 - This looks ripe for BLIND FAITH (2), who arguably produced her best effort yet when third in a stronger handicap than this at Chelmsford. She remains open to improvement and will prove hard to beat if responding well to a first-time hood. Katebird and Lucy's Law, who got back on track with a good third at Redcar last time, can fill the places.
17:00 - MOUNT ROCK (12) is the least exposed of these and - 2 lb lower than when a good third on handicap debut at York - he could be the answer in this tricky-looking handicap to conclude the Placepot. Father Bertie failed to fire in two starts during the spring, but will be a live danger if able to bounce back and stablemate Just Hiss could also have a part to play.
17:35 - It is hard to look beyond FIRE LEOPARD (1), who scored in fine style here on Monday and she's a sizeable step ahead of the handicapper under a penalty. Epitaph, Solo Mission and Chocolate Box can scrap it out for minor honours.
