Jim Bolger is the trainer of Light Heavy.

Timeform provide a runner-by-runner guide to the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown on Sunday...

Light Heavy progressed to beat Call To Battle 2½ lengths in Ballysax Stakes over C&D last time...

Wrote improved markedly with each run last year, culminating with victory in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. Respectable third to Daddy Long Legs in UAE Derby on return and trip will suit.

Calgacus is by Galileo and out of a US Grade 2 1m/9f winner. Showed fair form when third to Azamata in maiden over C&D on return, but looks to be making up the numbers here.

Hit the Jackpot was blinkered when making all at Galway on last of 3 starts in maidens last summer. Improved again when third to Light Heavy in Ballysax Stakes over C&D but even more on plate now.

Light Heavy left debut form behind when beating Furner's Green over 1m here on return, and progressed to beat Call To Battle 2½ lengths in Ballysax Stakes over C&D last time. Is still capable of better.

Tower Rock has improved with every run, winning Navan maiden in October and then third to Light Heavy in Ballysax Stakes on return. Further progress needed and hard to see him reversing places.

Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Light Heavy
2. Wrote
3. Tower Rock

Timeform Verdict: A Derby trial that has a good record of producing the winner at Epsom and this year's renewal should give another good indication. Light Heavy has progressed well this year and is chosen to improve again and complete the hat-trick ahead of the Ballydoyle pair Wrote and Tower Rock.
