Bets Of The Day: So Near So Farhh ready on seasonal debut
Nick Shiambouros is back with a couple of selections from the flat meeting at Pontefract...
"She won a couple of handicaps last September, which read well in the context of this race"
Farhh ready on seasonal debut
16:00 Pontefract - So Near So Farhh
So Near So Farhh should make her presence felt in this staying handicap.
This filly disappointed on her final start last October over this course when finishing down the field behind Bodacious Name. The writing was on the wall fully two furlongs from home, and she was rightly eased when all chance had gone. She was probably feeling the effects of a long season, and this run is best forgotten. She won a couple of handicaps last September, which read well in the context of this race. She is racing off a mark of 64 which is not overly harsh. She is trading at [4.9], which is more than fair.
Bailarico is the favourite at [3.05]. He was unbeaten on the flat last season winning five times. He was kept busy in the winter and managed to win a long distance hurdle at Leicester in January. I think he has it all to do at the weights, and will need a career best to prevail.
17:00 Pontefract - Rathbone
Rathbone should go close in this novice stakes.
He ran well without winning last year and has some solid form in the book. After a couple of narrow defeats in nurseries, he was not beaten all that far behind The Great Heir in a valuable sales race at Doncaster last September. He was gelded after disappointing in Listed company. He is the form choice and is fairly priced at [2.88] on the exchange.
Alfred Boucher heads the market at [2.66]. He was narrowly beaten by a useful sort at Nottingham last October, and has every right to move forward.
