Nottingham hosts the pick of Wednesday's Flat action and that is where we head for today's Placepot attempt.
14:10 - An interesting maiden with plenty of big yards represented should see John Gosden's Occult in the places again as he was at Doncaster's Lincoln meeting on his first start (behind a potentially exciting type), with the step up to a mile expected to suit based on his pedigree.
14:40 - Waady won with something in hand at Sandown in September despite showing his inexperience during the race and that form has been well franked since, with the second and fifth both winning maidens and the third not disgraced in listed company, he will be hard to beat if handling the more testing ground here.
15:10 - Dutch Masterpiece catches the eye on his reappearance based on some of his earlier form but he is entitled to need this after a year on the sidelines, a safer alternative could be found in the ultra-consistent Spinatrix who won a couple of competitive sprints last season and will relish the underfoot conditions.
15:40 - Although Forever Now is by far the best at the weights here he is unproven on this type of ground and is worth taking on for Placepot purposes with the match-fit Island Remede who ran creditably behind Windshear (ahead of Although Forever in the St Leger) on her reappearance and in doing so indicated that this longer trip should be suitable.
16:10 - The form from Donncha's Windsor success after a similar break and on similar ground to this looks strong and a 7lb rise may not be enough to prevent him from being in the places here. Both Yourartisonfire and Le Chat D'or ran well in the Spring Mile at Doncaster at the Lincoln meeting, but the latter's performance looks slightly better as it was likely run on ground quicker than ideal and he is therefore expected to reverse those placings in today's softer conditions.
16:40 - Not a lot of turf form with much substance on offer in this race, but Outback Ruler was not without promise on a couple of his starts last season and both his unlucky ninth in a valuable Irish sales race and his second in a nursery at Epsom offer encouragement that he will go close on his first start over a mile. What Asham can not be easily dismissed based on his last two easy victories at Southwell and he will go close if transferring that ability on his turf debut.
