"...leaving the impression she is better than she was able to show..."
Timeform on Duneflower
14:10 - This race has thrown up some good ones over the years, and OTTOMAN COURT (5) hails from an in-form yard that has had five winning two-year-old newcomers from a small sample in recent weeks and, given he is very strong in the mark, the hint should be taken. Homespin is another interesting debutant, while Port Winston might be vulnerable, for all he made a sound start at Windsor.
14:45 - AEGEUS (1) had already been gelded but showed plenty to work on when finishing runner-up at Bath on his debut three weeks ago, coming from further back than the winner but coming clear of the others, and given his pedigree is an ongoing recommendation, he shades the vote over Tabassor, whose debut third at Haydock came on heavy ground. Sleepdancer makes most appeal of the newcomers.
15:15 - KINGS ROYAL HUSSAR (5) only showed fair form in three starts for Richard Hannon last season, but there's reason to think he is capable of better this time around, having been gelded and switched to the in-form Alan King yard since. He showed enough to suggest he is up to winning a race of this nature, and King has a good record with his horses returning from a break, so a bold bid is expected in what doesn't look the strongest event. Lady Mascara is another who likely has more to offer and looks the biggest danger.
15:45 - DUNEFLOWER's (3) debut form last season has worked out very well, and she landed the odds on her final start last year despite not being at her best. She shaped as though retaining all of her ability after six months off when fourth under a penalty in a minor event at Wetherby last time, leaving the impression she is better than she was able to show. On her debut form, an opening mark of 84 looks more than fair and, with the likelihood of further improvement to come, especially now tackling a mile, she is fancied to go close here for a yard that do well with such types. The Roger Varian-trained Nearooz hasn't done anything wrong in both of her starts to date and looks an obvious danger in search of a hat-trick.
16:20 - MANORAH (3) made a good impression on the all-weather last season, building on the promise of her debut when winning a minor event at Kempton on her final start. She was very easy to back, and very disappointing on her seasonal reappearance/turf debut at Ffos Las earlier this month, dropping away tamely. She can't have been right that day, and given she hails from a yard in form, she is well worth another chance now entering handicaps from a mark that doesn't look bad. Inclyne is from a smart family that has served connections well, and surely has races in her off this sort of mark judging by her close second on handicap bow at Ascot 10 days ago, so is another to consider.
16:55 - AKAVIT (6) shaped better than the bare result when seventh on his most recent outing at Pontefract, his rider getting the tactics wrong with a rapid move out wide soon after halfway, no surprise under the circumstances that he was unable to sustain his effort in the straight. Ed de Giles' charge certainly showed enough to suggest that he is coming to the boil, a view reinforced by the support that came for him before the off - now 5 lb below his last winning mark, this looks a good opportunity for him to recoup those losses, with recent Chepstow winner Master Grey feared most under a penalty.
17:25 - AGHAST (10) left her juvenile form well behind to make a winning return in a big-field handicap at Thirsk three weeks ago and the manner of that success suggests there's more to come from her. Staycation has been steadily progressive for this yard, caught only late on at Pontefract last time, and is next best ahead of other last-time-out winners Socru and Di Matteo.
