There's plenty of Manchester United connections with today's horse, but can he show Fergie-esque fortitude and win?

At Southwell today in the opening race Manchestermaverick should be hard to beat in what is a modest contest run over seven furlongs. This Van Nistelrooy-gelding has plenty of form in the book notably when fourth to a fair sort on debut.Today the opposition is weak and on pedigree he should handle the track surface. His current price of [2.0] looks appropriate.

The lightly raced Unsung Heroine should go close at HQ today in the Group 2 event at 5pm. Last time out in the St Leger she ran her heart out to finish a brave second to Conduit. In the circumstances her performance was even more meritorious having raced only twice before in her life. In addition, I think the shorter distance today will be in her favour and costing just 5,000gns as a yearling she looks like the bargain of a lifetime.

In the opening race at HQ today at 1pm Izzi Mill is a horse that has caught my eye in this huge field of maidens. This daughter of Belmont Stakes-winner Lemon Drop Kid has run a couple of times this year and comes out of a race in June when she finished fourth to Uramazin. The form of that race has worked out pretty well with several winners coming out of that event. Izzi Mill comes in to this race at a huge price but I am expecting her to show improvement and could surprise you know.

At Nottingham today in the 4.10, Gilt Edge Girl has a solid chance to open her account after a encouraging debut in which she finished second to Red Rosanna only just being denied close to home. Her pedigree suggests that she will be suited to the underfoot conditions and she should go close in this race. At present she is trading at [3.05] on the exchange.

At Uttoxeter today in the 3.05 Diamond Harry is a very interesting runner in this Novice hurdle over two miles. Last season this gelding looked like a very promising recruit when he won a decent Bumper at Newbury for the second time in his brief career and has been carefully managed for his debut over obstacles today. He comes in to this race with a tall reputation and should go very close in this race. At present he is trading at [3.05] on the exchange.

At Newcastle today in the opening race at 2.20, Allformary has a decent chance to open her account in this maiden. On debut this daughter of Tobougg ran very well at huge odds behind runaway winner Yorksters Girl and gave me the strong impression that there was more to come. At present she is trading at [2.64] on the exchange and I have backed her at this price.

At Kempton today in the 3.40 Damaniyat Girl should go very close in this maiden run on the Polytrack surface. On debut this beautifully bred filly by Elusive Quality ran very well finishing second to Shamwari Lodge at Haydock. Today the surface switch should pose no problems for her and she is sure to improve for her recent run and should prove hard to beat in this race. At present she is trading at [2.34] on the exchange.
