Newton Abbot hosts a six-race card on Monday, and that is where we head for today's Placepot attempt.
"Bumble Bay now has his customary hood re-fitted (left off for handicap debut) and looks on a workable mark based on his modest bumper win..."
14:00- Full Blast dropped out in alarming fashion last time at Fontwell, after being well backed, and he could be one to avoid for Placepot purposes in the first race. The obvious one to take him on with is General Ginger, who got off the mark over hurdles in May, and could have more to offer under a penalty, given he is in such excellent hands.
14:30- The Yank was set to win with some ease last time at Sedgefield, only to fall at the last, and although he is now 7lb higher in the weights (was under a penalty that day), the way he travelled suggests that he has bigger performances in him, he looks a solid option for the places after being given a short break.
15:00- Nothing in the field has more potential than Sykes, who could win this with some ease, but it is slightly concerning that he has not been seen since winning his maiden, and it could be worth including Chantara Rose instead, who may yet do better for Peter Bowen, after shaping well on her first start for the yard back in April.
15:30- This is between Lilac Tree and Kapstadt, who may well fill the first two spots. Kapstadt is narrowly preferred, however, after showing himself to be in good heart with a useful effort on the Flat at Goodwood last month, he should be able to defy a 12lb hike in the weights in this sphere and make it three from three over hurdles.
16:00- The form of Vexillum's win at Sedgefield last time looks good, with the third going on to win since, and he may well find more improvement from his revised mark on just his fifth start for Neil Mulholland. Bumble Bay now has his customary hood re-fitted (left off for handicap debut) and looks on a workable mark based on his modest bumper win, so is also worth including.
16:30- Sean Bowen is an eye-catching booking on Canas Taoi, who got off the mark under rules at Worcester in June, after winning an Irish point, and with this trip set to suit, he can make the places. Supapowers is clearly on a handy mark after placing in a well-contested novice handicap at Uttoxeter over the summer, and is also worth including.
