Through The Card: Newcastle, Wednesday 5 December
Timeform take you through the card at Newcastle on Wednesday...
"Her turn looks near, and she gets the vote to score now dropped another 1 lb."
Timeform on Totally Magic
17:15 - TOTALLY MAGIC (10) hasn't won for over two years now, but she has slipped in the weights during that time, and shaped like the best handicapped horse in the race when fourth over C&D last time, doing too much too soon that day. Her turn looks near, and she gets the vote to score now dropped another 1 lb. Zodiakos remains on a competitive mark under a penalty and is next best ahead of Kilbaha Lady.
17:45 - Considering that those with experience don't set a high standard, preference is for the newcomer ALMASHRIQ (1), who makes plenty of appeal on paper for his debut, as an expensive son of War Front. He's strong in the market this morning, too, which is a good sign. Fellow newcomers Mosakhar and Transpennine Gold are also worth a check in the market.
18:15 - I AM DANDY (3) has been knocking on the door of late, hitting the frame in three of her last four starts, and now back in this lowly company, he is fancied to finally shed the maiden tag. Betty Grable is another who has been going close of late and is considered, whilst Mr Potter has remained competitive since winning three starts ago.
18:45 - FALSE ID (2) was a winner here 8 days ago, and whilst he was unable to follow up at Wolverhampton last time, he has excuses as a very slow starter, unable to get into proceedings on that less testing track. He's still in good form, and can win again off the same mark as last time with Thomas Greatrex booked. Thecornishbarron, on just his third start for Brian Ellison, and Jai Hanuman are a couple of others fancied to feature.
19:15 - NICK VEDDER (5) seems to save his best form for Newcastle, winning here two starts ago, and he only found a progressive rival too good on his follow up bid over six furlongs last week; keeping on well to the line. The step up to seven furlongs shouldn't be an issue, and he gets the vote to score. Deansgate won a C&D handicap last time and is second choice, though Equiano Springs lurks on a dangerous mark.
19:45 - ROCK IN SOCIETY (7) shaped better than the bare result when fourth in a stronger race than this over seven furlongs at Dundalk last month; racing clear under an overly aggressive ride, before getting caught well inside the final furlong. The return to six furlongs should therefore suit, and he has to be of interest off his current mark. Breathoffreshair, Tadaany and Dandy Highwayman are the obvious dangers.
20:15 - MININGGOLD (6) was only just beaten at Southwell last time out, a run which shows that she is threatening to come good soon, and provided she can convert that form back to this surface she can get a deserved win. Jorvik Prince should go well once more from the front after his Wolverhampton win, and he completed a hat-trick last winter. Another Angel is another who should be getting his head in front again soon.
