Through The Card: Newcastle, Friday 30 November
Timeform take you through the card at Newcastle on Friday evening...
"...shaped well when third on his return to the all-weather here eight days ago..."
Timeform on El Hombre
17:15 - None of these look particularly solid and the suggestion is INSURPLUS (1), who shaped as though going back up in trip would be in his favour when runner-up over six furlongs here 23 days ago. He was returning from a six-month absence on that occasion, so ought to be sharper now. Angel's Acclaim was third in a better-class race than this on penultimate start and is feared most ahead of Ninepin Bowler.
17:45 - FIGHTWITHME (3) is beautifully bred (by Shamardal and out of a mare who won the Falmouth Stakes) and shaped well when third on his debut at Newmarket earlier this month, beaten just a length and a half and putting significantly more distance between himself and the chasing pack. That form leaves him 3 lb clear of the field on weight-adjusted ratings here and, with plenty of improvement on the cards, he is fancied to see off the attentions of the newcomer Top Power and can get off the mark in this second leg of the Placepot.
18:15 - EL HOMBRE (4) never got going in the more competitive turf handicaps this year, but he shaped well when third on his return to the all-weather here eight days ago, twice denied a clear run in the closing stages and ultimately unlucky not to finish closer than the length and a quarter he was beaten. Keith Dalgleish's charge certainly showed enough that day to suggest that he is on a mark - he is 2 lb clear of the field on weight-adjusted ratings here - and it would be no surprise if compensation awaited him this evening, with the return to six furlongs also expected to be in his favour (C&D winner).
18:45 - The vote goes to KLIPPERTY KLOPP (3), who took a significant step forward when going close over shorter here last month, leaving the impression that he would benefit from the step up to this trip. Melgate Majeure won at the same meeting and he is feared most. Red Phoenix also merits respect.
19:15 - ASSIMILE (8) produced a career-best when adding to his tally in a Southwell handicap 15 days ago and has every chance of following up on these terms, a clear leader on weight-adjusted ratings for a yard that continues in top form. Roman de Brut should have a part to play in the finish if he puts his best foot forward but Lady Alavesa, who has been in good form in plating company of late, rates the main danger.
19:45 - HOLY HEART (6) shaped with plenty of promise when third on debut at Wolverhampton, form which reads well in the context of this race, and he will prove hard to beat if ready to roll following an absence of almost a year. Middlescence and Thaayer are taken to fill the places in this concluding leg of the Placepot, given that Matterhorn may prove vulnerable under a penalty following his Chelmsford victory.
20:15 - VIKING WAY (11) is doing little wrong at present and can belatedly open his account with a defeat of Windforpower.
20:45 - SKYVA (5) is more consistent than a lot of low-grade sprinters and can notch up a second win. Santafiora and Roaring Rory are others to consider.
