"That form sets a clear standard on weight-adjusted ratings here..."

Timeform on Black Sails

13:40 - MARSEILLE (10) scored on her return over C&D last year and suggested her mark thereafter was workable when filling the runners-up spot on three of her next four starts, so could be worth chancing in what looks, admittedly, a fiendishly competitive start to the Placepot. Orient Class with a reappearance spin under his belt and Oriental Lilly are just two potential threats.

14:10 - BLACK SAILS (2) was strong in the betting and posted another fairly useful effort when second at Wolverhampton earlier this month, attempting to put her experience to good use from the front and simply bumping into one too good on the day. That form sets a clear standard on weight-adjusted ratings here and, with the prospect of more to come in first-time cheekpieces, Black Sails is fancied to see off the attentions of Cowboy Soldier and can resume winning ways back at the minimum trip.

14:45 - OUTSIDE INSIDE (9) had some fairly useful juvenile form to her name in Ireland, including when second on her penultimate outing at Gowran Park in August, and she could well have more to offer for her new yard this campaign. She makes most appeal with the Placepot in mind, though Insurplus is likely to be much sharper this time round, while Welliesinthewater is one to bear in mind from this sort of mark.

15:20 - COSMEAPOLITAN (6) idled in front last time so could easily still have a bit in hand of his mark and he has the ideal man to deliver him late in Jamie Spencer. The third gave the form of that latest outing a boost, too, when winning his next start at Lingfield. Stargazer made a good start for Phil Kirby when second over 2m here last week and he moved well enough through that race to suggest this shorter trip won't faze him. Amazing Red and Island Brave also make the shortlist.

15:55 - PURSER (9) won two of his four starts as a juvenile, namely a maiden at Newbury and a minor event at Lingfield, powering nine lengths clear on the latter occasion and putting up a smart effort in the process. He was by no means disgraced when fifth in a Group 3 at Newmarket nine days later (possibly not so effective on turf) and is fancied to take all the beating for the John Gosden yard after five months off here, with further improvement expected with another winter under his belt.

16:25 - HARD FOREST (3) rates a tentative pick in what looks a tricky conclusion to the Placepot, with no previous form to go on. Mark Johnston's charge has a few notable entries and is related to winners in the US. Snazzy, Kodiac Dancer and Vikivaki are other interesting debutantes, and market support for any of the trio would bring them firmly into the equation.

16:55 - RUDE AWAKENING (3) scored comfortably on his 1m handicap bow here last week and can make light of a penalty with further progress very much on the cards over this longer trip. Top weight Casey Jones is unbeaten in a pair of runs here last month and is the obvious one to give the selection most to do.
