Plenty of decent field sizes make Newbury the best option for today's Placepot.
"Relax beat the current favourite for this race Soll by 17 lengths at Sandown back in February last year, and returns to that mark today."
13:45- It might be worth chancing the Rebecca Curtis-trained Lookslikerainted, who reverts to hurdles after failing to build on his solid chase debut at Worcester back in October from just a 1lb lower mark. His jumping seemed to be the limiting factor for the rest of his chasing career, so a return to the smaller obstacles is in his favour under his talented young claimer.
14:15- Relax beat the current favourite for this race, Soll, by 17 lengths at Sandown back in February last year, and returns to the same mark today. He was likely caught out by the quicker conditions at Exeter on his latest start, and will appreciate the step back up in trip as well as the forecast rain at Newbury today. Venitia Williams' other runner in the race, Ballyoliver, also looks well handicapped based on his reappearance run at Carlisle in November and will be in the shake-up if building on his Ascot run two weeks ago over three miles.
14:50- The strong form from Attwaal's Haydock run over two miles in December (first, third, fourth and fifth have all won since) suggests he will appreciate this drop back in trip. He is preferred to top weight Albert Bridge who will have to defy a 7lb rise when given a tough enough race at Chepstow just seven days ago.
15:25- Saint Raph was probably getting the better of Atlantic Roller when that one unseated at the last at Wincanton last time out (that horse went on to run fairly well off a 3lb higher mark) and it is not improbable for this lightly-raced horse to be involved here off an 11lb higher mark. Easter Meteor has been mightily disappointing since falling late when going well in the 2013 Paddy Power Gold Cup, but placed in a hot race over course and distance off a 3lb lower mark later that season and will be dangerous here if his new yard can spark any sort of revival.
16:00- Rathealy is unappealing under a 7lb penalty for his Plumpton success just five days ago and Mccabe Creek could be the most solid option here from a place point of view, off a more than workable opening handicap mark.
16:35- Cody Wyoming was taken out of a less competitive race here yesterday in order to attempt this race for the second time. He has seemingly gone from strength to strength after putting his fall in this race last year behind him (when looking booked for a place) and has improved enough since then to be competitive off a 14lb higher mark.
