Alan landed the Willie Mullins treble yesterday on the Sportsbook at Leopardstown and today turns his attention to Kempton and Wolverhampton...
"The extra distance might help her get a decent position in the early part of the race this time and allow her a chance of getting her head in front where it matters."
Snowball is on a roll at the moment (pardon the pun) and can make it a hat-trick of wins by taking the opener at Kempton this afternoon.
The 9yo gelding is in the form of his life but thanks to a pair of narrow, but very gutsy, wins has only crept up the handicap and is fully entitled to take today's contest of 94, just 3lb higher than winning at Taunton a few weeks ago.
That Taunton win was significant because it came in dreadful conditions, the ground being described as officially Soft (Heavy in places), similar to what he'll encounter today. And with the front two coming well clear of the third from a long way out that day the handicapper would have been excused for giving Snowball a higher rating that he actually did.
Another plus is the fact that Harry Cobden gets the leg-up this afternoon, a top class amateur who can claim 3lb, effectively meaning Snowball is running of his winning mark from last time.
Jamie Osborne runs his three-year-old filly Israfel over a furlong further than her last run at the track where she finished a running on second (beaten just over two lengths) behind 60 rated Madame Barker. Israfel got a terrible start in that race and was still last of nine at the two furlong pole but managed to pass the rest of the field in the final two furlongs to claim a respectable second.
The extra distance might help her get a decent position in the early part of the race this time and allow her a chance of getting her head in front where it matters. Sometimes these lower rated races can be deceiving and she could well have just been passing beaten horses but her rating of 49 could prove to be a very lenient mark, if she is indeed genuine.
