Bets Of The Day: Outsider Blue Chip has a chance at Leicester

Both of Alan Dudman's recommended lays were successful yesterday - including Scorpions Sting at 1.501/2. His two bets come from Leicester on Monday, where there could be a chance to back a filly at a big price...

"I would suggest putting up a bet of 20.019/1 in-running. If it doesn't get matched, then no damage done. But she looks a thorough stayer, and we might have a chance."

15:50 Leicester - Mistrusting

As a punting rule (we all have them), I tend to swerve a lot of Bank Holiday Monday cards as the usual diet of dozens of low grade handicaps rarely excite me. However, the filly Mistrusting - who runs in a 6f 0-95 could be different class to her rivals at Leicester, and potentially has the scope to be well above average.

The Charlie Appleby trained daughter of Sharmadal has any amount of improvement to come as she makes her first run as a 3yo, and there were a stack of positives from her pair of juvenile outings.

Her second on debut at Ascot was a maiden run in a 2yo course record time, and she went on to win her second start in good style at Haydock. I watched the race again and she bombed through the mid-part of that extremely powerfully.

She held Rockfel and Fillies' Mile entries last term, so it was a disappointment she wasn't seen after the success at Haydock, but she still has a Group 3 entry in Ireland. Her allotted handicap debut mark of 90 should well be within reach given the potential she has.

This is a promo race on the Sportsbook too.

16:55 Leicester - Blue Chip

The two at the top of the market; Yarrow and Stubbins set a fair level of form for this 1m4f maiden. Both have had three starts each, with official ratings of 77 and 80; so not totally out of reach.

Yarrow will be a massive player though from her run at Salisbury (behind Fabricate who scored well on Saturday), but the price reflects that at 2.14. On form she should win.

However, Stubbins and Blue Chip come from the John Gosden yard, and with both looking out-and-out stayers, the latter's price at 12.0 is too big, as I think we're getting a similar type of horse.

She ran at Chelmsford over near-enough 1m6f - a tough ask on debut. She was very green at the start, slowly away (never easy to make up ground at the Essex venue) and widest of all. Yet with all this, she plugged on for third behind Star Rider - who performed well in a good handicap at Goodwood at the weekend.

I'm not sure she can beat Yarrow, but she might be of a similar standard to her stablemate, and with her coming back in trip (she doesn't look the quickest), I would suggest putting up a bet of 20.019/1 in-running. If it doesn't get matched, then no damage done. But she looks a thorough stayer, and we might have a chance.
