15:45 Plumpton - Champagne George
Champagne George should give a good account of himself in this maiden hurdle.
This gelding beat Not Another Muddle in a bumper at Fontwell in November. He stayed on really well in the closing stages and forged ahead near the line. The pair ended up a mile ahead of the third placed finisher.
I was most impressed with his attitude and should be ready to do himself justice on his hurdles debut. He is trading at a reasonable 2.767/4 on the exchange.
Linguine is the obvious danger. He has solid credentials coming in to this race, but may not be suited by testing conditions. He is a free running sort and is not certain to get home on this kind of ground.
17:00 Wolverhampton - Amazement
Amazement should run well in this interesting maiden.
This Lope De Vega colt finished down the field on debut behind Cape Seed at Chelmsford City last month. He was asked the question three furlongs from home, but folded quickly and finished well beaten.
I think he may have needed the run, and is entitled to show a fair bit of improvement. In addition the stable is going well which is an added bonus.
I do not think this race will take a lot of winning, and I will be surprised if he is not involved in the finish. His current price of 4.94/1 is just about right.
Miro is the favourite at 3.211/5. He finished a closing second to Mr Quicksilver at Lingfield last month. He ran on fairly well in the closing stages, but never had a realistic chance of catching the winner.
I am not convinced this gelding is entirely straightforward and I am happy to pass him over.
