Timeform on Black Kalanisi

13:45 - SIANNES STAR (1) and Swaffham Bulbeck are the pair to concentrate on in this opening leg of the Placepot, with the former narrowly preferred following his convincing win at Perth last month.

14:15 - ISTIMRAAR (8) was let down by his jumping when attempting to complete a hat-trick over fences at Sedgefield on Monday, but that shouldn't prove an issue now reverting to hurdles, and he would appear to hold sound claims of getting back to winning ways here. Indeed, he could hardly have been more impressive on his penultimate outing at Plumpton, when scooting 11 lengths clear without coming off the bridle, and that form leaves him 4 lb clear of the field this afternoon, in a race that the Dan Skelton yard has dominated in recent years (won the last two renewals).

14:50 - WHATMORE (3) is a talented and likeable hurdler who has the physique to prove even better in this discipline, so he's firmly expected to see off fellow chasing debutant Newtown Boy, with Tanrudy likely to have a spin round in their wake.

15:25 - AKARITA LIGHTS (1) has plenty of speed on the dam's side of his pedigree, but he's by a St Leger winner and shaped as if in need of this extra emphasis on stamina last time, so this potentially useful bumper recruit is taken to edge out ex-pointer Deputy Jones in a race which they're likely to dominate.

16:00 - BLACK KALANISI (3) recorded back-to-back wins under Daryl Jacob last summer, and though coming off second best, there was plenty to like about his return after 10 months off in a match race at Kempton recently, only losing out by a short head after a sustained duel up the straight. Joseph Tuite's charge certainly showed enough to suggest that he can be competitive from an opening mark of 128, with the prospect of even more to come as he gains in experience, and everything looks set fair for another big run here, especially now that he is reunited with Jacob, who arrives here in top form after a hat-trick at Sedgefield on Tuesday.

16:35 - BANDSMAN (2) doesn't boast the most convincing of profiles, but it was possible to take more encouragement from his latest effort in a better race than this at Sandown, and there is a clear case to be made for him if building on that here. Indeed, he is 5 lb clear of the field on weight-adjusted ratings, having dropped to a mark only 4 lb higher than when winning around this time last year, and Harry Skelton has excelled when riding at Market Rasen in recent seasons, with an impressive 46 winners to his name (more than at any other track bar Uttoxeter).

17:10 - CRAIGMOR (3) has a positive profile and could easily have more to offer now back over fences, so gets the nod over Air de Rock and Vendredi Trois.

17:45 - PURE AFFECTION (2) has fewer convictions than the majority of these and could be the way to go in the finale, with the step up to three miles fancied to see her pull out more. Lamh Ar Lamh is also likely to be popular having won two of his last three.
