18:20 - HALLING'S WISH (2) was not disgraced over fences earlier in the month and had previously been knocking on the door under similar conditions to these. Ben Robinson is a good pilot to have on side in races of this kind and his mount is taken to gain a first success of the season in this opening leg of the Placepot. The selection's stable-companion Iballisticvin is a definite threat if fully fit on his return from six months off the track.

18:50 - PETERPORT (7) looked in need of the experience when only sixth on his racecourse debut at Newbury two weeks ago, but still showed signs of ability and is entitled to improve with that initial outing under his belt. The step up to this trip is expected to suit on breeding and, with an entry in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, Peterport is expected to show why he is held in such high regard by connections and can get off the mark at the second time of asking.

19:20 - JONNYSIMPSON (10) fared better than the bare result when fourth on her racecourse debut at Bath, enduring a troubled passage as the field entered the final furlong and doing well in the circumstances to be beaten just three and three-quarter lengths. She should prove capable of better with that initial experience under her belt and can give Brendan Powell a winner with his only runner on this evening's card at Kempton, although there are plenty of dangers in an open contest.

19:50 - GYMNASTE (1) shaped well when second on her racecourse bow at Newcastle in November and duly confirmed the promise of that outing with a fairly useful effort to open her account at Chester three weeks ago. The runner-up gave that form a boost when going one better back at Chester next time and, with the possibility of more to come after just two starts, Gymnaste should prove extremely difficult to beat and can take advantage of what looks a lenient mark in this fourth leg of the Placepot.

20:20 - BALLARD DOWN (1) showed much improved form to resume winning ways in a first-time visor at Wolverhampton four weeks ago, travelling strongly into contention as the field entered the straight and quickly forging clear in the closing stages. That form gives him the edge over Lastmanlastround on Timeform ratings and, although he may not be the most straightforward, Ballard Down looks the one to beat if arriving in the same mood here and can defy a 7 lb hike in the weights.

20:50 - TYRELL (6) was beaten just a nose when second on his most recent outing on the Flat at Windsor in October and has acquitted himself well in two subsequent starts over hurdles, including when successful at Warwick at last time. He could have more to offer on the level now wearing a visor for the first time and, while Charismatic Man is an obvious danger, Tyrell makes most appeal on these terms and is fancied to make a successful return to action for the Alan King yard.

21:20 - TORIANO (3) lost his unbeaten record at Leicester in August, but may have been unsuited by the drop in trip that day and remains a useful prospect back over seven furlongs on return for an in-form yard (three winners from last six runners).

Recommendation:

Win back TYRELL in the 20:50 at Kempton

Placepot permutation:

18:20 - 2
18:50 - 7
19:20 - 10
19:50 - 1
20:20 - 1
20:50 - 6
