Timeform take you through the card at Kempton on Sunday...
"...he won on his reappearance in 2015/16 and trainer Paul Nicholls could hardly be in better form..."
Timeform on Old Guard
14:00 - QUEL DESTIN (1) shaped best of all under a penalty when second on his first run for Paul Nicholls at Chepstow last week and can give the trainer a third straight win in this opening leg of the Placepot. Perth-winner Ghost Serge looks the one for the forecast ahead of Tazka.
14:30 - Nigel Twiston-Davies has his team in very good form and it might be worth taking a chance on JABULANI (1) getting his career back on track now chasing after a break. A Place Apart makes a quick switch to fences after his recent maiden hurdle success and is much respected for Gavin Cromwell, while Battle of Ideas appeals as the sort who could go on to better things now chasing.
15:05 - Well placed in recent starts by Philip Hobbs, LEAPAWAY (4) didn't need to improve to complete the five-timer at Newton Abbot last month, hitting the front soon after two out and quickly drawing clear thereafter. Clearly that didn't tell us anything new about him, other than that he is in good heart, but he has the look of one who should prove capable of rating higher still given the opportunity and is fancied to do just that stepping up to listed level here, with very little to find with recent Chepstow winner Grand Sancy on the bare form as it is.
15:40 - CASABLANCA MIX (1) showed she had enough speed for this sort of trip on her most recent outing at Exeter in Decemeber, where she would have followed up her Huntingdon success had she not made her only jumping error when the race was at her mercy, in control (at least 10 lengths ahead) when falling at the last. Nico de Boinville's mount was still rated as having put up a much improved performance that day, and there was certainly enough in it to suggest that a BHA mark of 138 won't prove beyond her here, 3 lb clear of the field on weight-adjusted ratings and with the prospect of more to come.
16:10 - OLD GUARD (1) proved better than ever in a busy and productive 2017/18 campaign, recording the first of his three wins in this race, when beating his reopposing stablemate San Benedeto by four and a half lengths, and going on to register the biggest victory of his career in the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell. He is burdened with a 6 lb penalty for that latter success here, but he still features amongst the principals on form and the lack of a recent run won't be an issue; he won on his reappearance in 2015/16 and trainer Paul Nicholls could hardly be in better form (six winners from his last 18 runners).
16:45 - ONE OF US (6) made an encouraging start over fences at Uttoxeter in May and is taken to build on that in this concluding leg of the Placepot, returning from a break in first-time cheekpieces. Closest Friend and Baron du Plessis are a couple of interesting rivals.
17:15 - ADMIRAL BARRATRY (1) was amongst some smart hurdlers when runner-up at Newbury 10 months ago and should prove hard to beat if in the same sort of form on his return. Wallace Spirit is likely to pose the main threat.
