Timeform on Tuff Rock

14:00 - CROSSED BATON (1) was strong in the betting and left his debut form behind to get off the mark at Sandown in September, staying on strongly to run down a subsequent winner deep inside the final furlong. The step up to this trip is expected to suit on that evidence and, representing the John Gosden yard that has a fine record with its runners here, Crossed Baton is fancied to improve past Tigre du Terre and can take his record to two wins from three starts.

14:35 - AUTOCRATIC (1) should prove sharper for his reappearance, when still only beaten three and three quarter lengths in the Winter Derby, and would appear to hold sound claims if returning to the form of his win in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown last May. Indeed, that form gives him the edge over Fabricate on weight-adjusted ratings and that rival has a six-month absence from the track to contend with here.

15:10 - QAYSAR (2) showed useful form when runner-up in a strong maiden at Newmarket before comfortably landing the odds over this C&D in November, and should prove a tough nut to crack with the prospect of more to come this season. Plunger looks a good prospect himself, while Emblazoned and Pivotal Man are newcomers to note in this third leg of the Placepot.

15:45 - WARM OASIS (4) may not be the easiest of rides, but James Fanshawe's charge is clearly ahead of his mark, having left the impression he should have won when second from 3 lb lower here in February. He's worth another chance back up in trip and can take this at the main expense of Time To Blossom and the hat-trick-seeking Inn The Bull.

16:20 - TUFF ROCK (13) returned to form when chasing home an improver on his penultimate outing over C&D in August and, having been gelded in the interim, the four-year-old proved better than ever to again fill the runner-up spot on his next start at Pontefract. He kept on well that day despite racing alone up the stands side (beaten just a length and a quarter) and should give another good account with more luck on return, able to race from the same mark after all.

16:55 - SPARKALOT (6) is a sprinter firmly on the up, landing his fourth C&D handicap 10 days ago, and a subsequent 4 lb rise is lenient. He makes most appeal, therefore, in this concluding leg of the Placepot, though Udontdodou is partnered by Jamie Spencer for the first time and should give the selection plenty to think about.

17:30 - WEDIDDODONTWE (7) remains lightly-raced and could easily up his game in a race in which several have a lot to prove, so he gets the vote. Excellent George isn't one of those as he chases a hat-trick, while Repton is a player if they go hard back in trip.
