Plenty of competitive handicaps at Kelso this afternoon make it an attractive venue for today's attempt at the Placepot.
"Stopped Out has won off a 4lb lower mark over hurdles and should relish dominating this small field as he did when winning at Market Rasen last month, he also offers an excellent record at the track and should give the market leaders something to think about."
13:45 - Captain Brown has yet to record a win at Kelso, but has come very close on two occasions, including when looking a likely winner in this race last year only to fall at the last. He arrives here on the back of a break off a 5lb lower mark than that effort and it is hard to see him out of the places.
14:15 - Hard to ignore Knockara Beau's impressively consistent record at this track for Placepot purposes, especially as many of the field don't look particularly well handicapped. Cloudy Too is also worth including based on his Rowland Meyrick win off just 2lb lower and he is expected to improve for his reappearance last month.
14:50 - Racing Europe comes here off the same mark as when fourth in a warm looking race at Haydock last time and with the third going on to run well at the Festival that looks some of the best form on offer here. Many of these aren't proven over this distance so it could pay to put in Samstown who is certain to get the trip. Although he is 11lb higher than his win here in November, he has won off just 1lb higher over fences, which offers encouragement that he is on a workable mark here today.
15:25 - Oscar Rock doesn't look completely straight forward and although boasting the most exciting profile coming into this race he could be worth taking on for Placepot purposes. Stopped Out has won off a 4lb lower mark over hurdles and should relish dominating this small field as he did when winning at Market Rasen last month, he also offers an excellent record at the track and should give the market leaders something to think about.
16:00 - Vengeur De Guye looks like he'll make a much better chaser than hurdler, forging clear over C&D on just his second chase start last time out, he remains unexposed and is sure to give another good account off this higher mark.
16:35 - The Cobbler Swayne seemed to appreciate the better ground on his first foray into handicap company, and with the winner and the fifth going on to run good races next time he should go close here off a 3lb higher mark. Hunters Belt is unreliable on the whole but seems to save his best for this track and with his last two wins coming here off a 1lb lower mark than today he is also worth including.
