I sincerely hope that we have one chastened handicapper at around 15:45 on Saturday afternoon, as Houblon Des Obeaux has been given every assistance from the assessor in a bid to bounce back to form in the Classic Chase at Warwick.

And then some.

Let's just say that I feel that the handicapper has been a bit hasty in dropping him 13lb for three runs this season, and hopefully the step up in trip on his favoured ground - thus giving him more time at his fences - will see his jumping improve.

If it does, then he won't be far off winning this race - even if the track is arguably a little on the sharp side for him - as he is the best-handicapped horse on several pieces of form last season, and by some distance.

Read the case that I made for him here on Tuesday and I still feel that he is a fair price at 10.09/1. The booking of Liam Treadwell is another positive for me, too.

I'm not going to tip another selection, but can see why fellow top weight Sego Success is the market leader at around the 8.07/1 mark. He would probably be my idea of the right favourite, too.

There are no doubts about the track for him, as he won a novice chase at the track in the soft last season, and he returned to form with a convincing five-length win at Doncaster last time. A 7lb rise for that victory is fair, and you can see easily him making a bold bid from the front.

As favourites in big-fields handicaps go, he isn't a bad shout, and stablemate Midnight Prayer is obviously a player too if over the coughing that ruled him out of the Welsh National last week, which connections obviously think he is.

A feature of this season is Willie Mullins' willingness to venture over the Irish Sea a lot more - not surprisingly given the amount of ammunition he has to fire - and his Black Hercules faces no easy task in the 13:50 despite facing just four rivals.

I don't think you can rule out any of the quintet but I imagine that Black Hercules, disappointing when favourite for the Albert Bartlett but impressive on his chasing debut at Navan last month, is likely to be a warm favourite.

There is no doubt that the step up to 3m on heavy ground are ideal for him, but I won't be playing in the race.

I will be backing Rolling Maul in the 14:25 though.

He doesn't return to hurdles after an unsuccessful spell chasing on a particularly good mark - he is rated 11lb lower over fences - but it a sensible decision, especially as conditions looks tailor-made for him.

He was a convincing winner in the soft here last March, for which a 7lb rise was fair enough, and the re-application of blinkers for a stable thankfully back among the winners recently is another plus.

He rates a bet at 11.010/1.

The novices' hurdle at 15:00 features two Mullins raiders and a host of unexposed horses for the top yards, but I am drawn to Final Nudge at double-figure odds. Back him at 10.09/1.

He may lack the sexiness of others in here but he revels in heavy ground and he posted a career-best when second to Uknowhatimeanharry over 3m at Cheltenham last time. The step back to 2m5f isn't an issue, and his form entitles him to be a shorter price than he is.

Nothing stands out on the C4 cards at Wetherby and Chelmsford with the exception of Yorkist in the 14:05 at the former track.

There is not much to say other than he hasn't been running too badly of late, while dropping to a very winnable mark if recapturing his best form of last season. And this trip on deep ground is ideal - so back him at 7.06/1 or bigger.
