Timeform's Irish team bring you their three best bets from Punchestown on Wednesday...
"Given the way Tilargon tanked through the race at Down Royal last time it looks high time for him to open his account..."
The first of today's best bets comes in the mares' hurdle over two-and-a-half-miles (15:10) in which there are a couple of interesting contenders. Layla Joan is unbeaten under rules after adding two wins at Ayr to her Fairyhouse success; she obviously holds strong claims but narrow preference goes to Upsie who faces a less demanding test than the Grade 3 company she's been running in recently. Prior to that she had won two bumpers in France and her first three outings over hurdles, and she sets a clear standard for the Walsh-Mullins axis.
It's a handicap hurdle over the same trip up next (15:40) and given the way Tilargon tanked through the race on his belated return at Down Royal last time it looks high time for him to open his account and record a first success under rules. On the pick of his form he holds very strong claims and if building on the promise of his last run he ought to get his head in front. Preswell Lad also merits respect now down to his last winning mark.
We finish with another handicap hurdle, this time over 21 furlongs (16:40) and it has all the makings of a trappy affair. For that reason a chance is taken on Easy Vic, who although still classified as a maiden showed an excellent attitude on his last run. That came at Fairyhouse where he was very narrowly denied, but the way he stuck to his task in the closing stages was extremely likeable and if able to build on that effort will certainly go close, with the booking of Ruby Walsh also a significant positive.
