Timeform focus on this afternoon's card at Navan for their three SmartPlays...
"Preference is for Edward Harty's Minella Foru, who won what looked like a decent maiden hurdle at Listowel on Rules debut and could develop into a smart novice this season..."
King of The Picts sets the standard in the 13:20, judged on his victory in this grade at Tipperary, but he's penalised for that and may struggle to concede weight to exciting prospects Minella Foru and Very Wood. Preference is for Edward Harty's Minella Foru, who won what looked like a decent maiden hurdle at Listowel on Rules debut and could develop into a smart novice this season.
Wooly Tom's (14:20) recent form figures are not overly inspiring, but he was better than the result on return at Naas and could be worth chancing here. Danequest should be on the premises, while Concrete And Clay is also worth considering. The selection has largely struggled since landing pair of handicaps in 2012, but didn't shape badly in the aforementioned affair on return in first-time hood at Naas 13 days ago, where he was given plenty to do, and he could bounce back here.
There looks to be more quantity than quality on show in the 15:55, and Tarquinius should prove a tough nut to crack back over hurdles off a favourable mark. Oscar Fiain and Day Dream Boy rate the main dangers. The selection was pulled up on return in the Cork National last weekend, but resumes over hurdles on a potentially lenient mark (successful off 8 lb higher over fences in January) and he looks the one to be on here.
