We head to 1,000 Guineas Day at The Curragh for our three best bets on Sunday...
"Adelaide lost no caste in defeat when runner-up in the Prix Hocquart on his seasonal reappearance at Longchamp last time and sets a clear standard..."
We kick off proceedings with the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes over ten furlongs (14:45) and given that Aidan O'Brien has won this race 12 times since 1997 anything he runs should be respected. The pick of the Ballydoyle trio is Adelaide, who lost no caste in defeat when runner-up in the Prix Hocquart on his seasonal reappearance at Longchamp last time and sets a clear standard here. He should strip a lot fitter for that run and he's expected to enhance his trainer's phenomenal record in this race even further with what could be a comfortable success.
It's the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup over an extended ten furlongs under consideration next (15:20) and it's another O'Brien-trained inmate in the shape of Magician who gets the vote to score here. He was made to work hard when landing the Moorsebridge stakes over C&D last time but was unsuited by the steady pace on that occasion and given the ever-improving Noble Mission is in the line-up this afternoon and seems likely to set a generous gallop, he should find things much more to his liking and can capitalise.
Our final bet of the day comes in the Irish 1,000 Guineas (15:55) and although Lightning Thunder was arguably unlucky not to win the English equivalent of this race and sets the standard, the soft ground is a major concern. As a result preference narrowly goes to Vote Often, who is proven with cut in the ground and looked in good form when seeing off her elders in a Group 3 over C&D in March. She should be primed for today and can give her owner/rider a famous Guineas double.
