Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Stocktons Wing to hit the right note at Fairyhouse

Timeform's Irish team have picked three bets

There are two Grade 2s on a very interesting card at Fairyhouse today and we have picked out three more SmartPlays....

Stocktons Wing has taken well to hurdling, winning readily at Down Royal in November prior to finishing second to Our Conor and Blood Cotil respectively in Graded contests at this track and at Leopardstown..

Dogora has justified short odds on both of his starts since joining Willie Mullins and, with further improvement likely, is sure to have his supporters again in the Winning Fair Juvenile Hurdle at 13:00. However, he had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Dalasiri at Gowran last time and has a bit to find on form with Stocktons Wing. Charles O'Briens' gelding has taken well to hurdling, winning readily at Down Royal in November prior to finishing second to Our Conor and Blood Cotil respectively in Graded contests at this track and at Leopardstown. Conditions will suit the selection and he may have too many gears for Dogora who seems likely to prove best at further than two miles.

Our Girl Salley has finished second on all four starts over fences this season, but that shouldn't put anyone off backing her in the handicap hurdle at 14.00. A four-time winner over hurdles, Our Girl Salley has been given a chance by the handicapper, now five pounds lower than when last seen in a handicap hurdle, and first-time cheekpieces may well have a positive effect. Her regular partner, Barry Geraghty, is on duty at Kempton, but Davy Russell is a more than adequate replacement and plenty of those in opposition have a bit to prove at present.

Willie Mullins looks set for another good day at the office and his Marasonnien should take plenty of beating in the beginners chase at 15:10. A Grade 1 winning novice hurdler last season, Marasonnien proved to be a let down on his debut over fences in this country when soundly beaten by The Westener Boy at Navan in December, but there was much more to like about his performance at Leopardstown last time when a staying-on second to Lord Windermere. That form has worked out quite nicely and, although this is a very competitive heat for this late in the season, Marasonnien was just about the best of these over hurdles and will be suited by the step back up in trip.
