Timeform identify three horses worth backing at Cork on Friday...

From the same family as the smart Midnight Soprano, Dancing Soprano made an encouraging start to her career, despite obvious signs of inexperience (wandered under pressure), as she stayed on well in the closing stages, pulling well clear of the third-placed horse.

Our first bet runs in the opening five-furlong minor event (17:30) as we side with the David Marnane-trained Nocturnal Affair. Now an eight-year-old, Nocturnal Affair is reaching the veteran stage of his career, but he is still capable of producing useful form and he showed as much on his reappearance at Naas, not beaten far in third, just a head behind Maarek who subsequently won the valuable Duke of York Stakes. Nocturnal Affair hasn't won since February 2012, but this represents a good opportunity for him to register an overdue success and he can get us off to a flying start.

With the Dermot Weld yard still in fantastic form it could be worth taking a chance on Diplomat in the ten-furlong handicap at 20:05. Diplomat was slightly disappointing when last seen over hurdles, but that came in an ultra-competitive handicap hurdle at the Punchestown Festival, and Dermot Weld's charge looks feasibly treated back on the Flat. He is able to race from the same mark that he defied when last successful on the Flat at Killarney in 2012, and soft ground will pose no problems.

Dancing Soprano shaped with promise on her debut when finishing second at Gowran Park and she sets the standard in the mile-and-a-half maiden at 20:35. From the same family as the smart Midnight Soprano, Dancing Soprano made an encouraging start to her career, despite obvious signs of inexperience (wandered under pressure), as she stayed on well in the closing stages, pulling well clear of the third-placed horse. That effort came over an extended nine furlongs and Dancing Soprano ought to be well suited by this step up in trip, so she can get off the mark.
