JP McManus could have a good day at Listowel
JP McManus could have a good day at Listowel

The Listowel festival continues and Timeform put forward a couple of horses worth backing...

Baby Whizz isn't straightforward - indeed, he was given the Timeform squiggle at one point - but there has been little wrong with his efforts this season...

Our first bet runs in the opening 17-furlong beginners' chase (14:00) as we side with the Gordon Elliott-trained Plan A. A useful hurdler who has also shown ability on the Flat, it is somewhat surprising that Plan A is without a win since successful in a pair of minor hurdling events in 2011. He has yet to run up to his best over fences, and was especially disappointing at Tipperary last time, but this looks like a good opening, and he should prove far too good for his rivals. NON RUNNER

We support another JP McManus-owned chaser in the next race (14:35) as Baby Whizz looks to hold solid claims of following up his win at the Galway Festival. Baby Whizz isn't straightforward - indeed, he was given the Timeform squiggle at one point - but there has been little wrong with his efforts this season, registering a couple of victories, including at Galway last time, and he remains well treated based on the pick of his efforts. Baby Whizz found plenty to get up close home last time, a more convincing victor than the winning margin would indicate, and he is likely to give another good account, the marked drop back in trip the obvious worry.

Ask Vic looks to have been allotted a fair mark and she can make a winning handicap debut in the two-and-a-half mile event at 16:55. Willie Mullins' lightly-raced mare has shown promise right from the outset, successful on her first couple of starts, and she bounced back from a slightly underwhelming effort when scoring in good style at Kilbeggan, always travelling well and asserting with little difficulty. Ask Vic looked well worth her place in better company after that and, though her rivals have the edge on experience, she is open to plenty of improvement and can take this en route to bigger things.
