Timeform's Irish team select three SmartPlays for tonight's meeting at Dundalk....
....given he is well drawn and is open to improvement, Exhortation is fancied to get off the mark at the third time of asking.
First up tonight is Exhortation in the six-furlong maiden. The Dermot Weld-trained colt has shaped well on both starts to date, losing no caste in defeat when third to Akeed Mofeed on debut and then finishing a half-length second of nine to Suehail at today's track on his seasonal reappearance. The drop back to six furlongs is unlikely to pose too much of a problem and, given he is well drawn and is open to improvement, Exhortation is fancied to get off the mark at the third time of asking.
Now, it would be fair to say that Bangalore Diamond has not exactly set the world alight, but his recent reappearance is easily excused, given he was poorly drawn and unsuited by the run of the race, and it is worth remembering that he was well backed when third at Down Royal last autumn. His jockey Joseph O'Brien is more than capable of taking advantage of his favourable draw and he looks capable of landing what looks a modest event.
The David Wachman yard are in fine form at the moment and Oh Happy Days looks capable of following up his recent win at Gowran. Making his handicap debut that day, Oh Happy Days stayed on strongly to beat Summer Knight by half a length. A 6 lb rise for that effort makes life tougher, but is possible we have not yet seen the best of him and looks sure to go close this evening.
