The opening maiden is under consideration first (14:15), where Salam Alaykum is taken to use the benefit of his experience and build on his promising start over timber at Navan last month. He should go one better today, although both Shemshal and Somethingwonderful are respected, bringing with them some tidy from bumpers last season.

The two mile novice chase contains some interesting contenders (15:45), the most appealing of which is Art of Logistics, who jumped soundly when making a winning debut in this sphere, and remains open to plenty of improvement over obstacles. Crucially for today's purposes he has a pull at the weights with the talented Darwins Fox and that should just prove the difference.

Whilst Hennessy runner-up First Lieutenant is unlikely to be at concert pitch for his seasonal return in the two mile seven furlong chase (16:15), he has more than enough class to see him through this contest, and is good enough to beat Roi du Mee and Tofino Bay without the benefit of a prep run.
