Willie Mullins can get us off to a good start

Dr Schultz got off the mark in a bumper at Kilbeggan last time, showing fairly useful form in the process, and he can make a successful hurdling debut in the opening contest at Downpatrick (14:35) this afternoon. Dr Schultz was by no means hard pressed to score last month as he travelled strongly and drew clear in impressive fashion, registering a 12-length success under a hands-and-heels ride, and he looks like a horse of some potential. Some of his rivals enjoy an experience edge, notably Rossvoss and I Am Great, but Dr Schultz should still prove difficult to beat.

Jamsie Hall looks attractively weighted over hurdles and can strike in the 16:10. Gordon Elliott's charge was a faller at Bellewstown on Thursday and hadn't necessarily been in the best of heart prior to that, running slightly below par in the ultra-competitive Galway Plate, but this doesn't look like a strong race, particularly if the Tony Martin-trained Lancing is withdrawn as expected having pulled up lame at Cork yesterday. The consistent High Talk ranks as the main danger and has been running well in defeat at this unique venue recently, but he isn't as well treated as the selection who holds excellent claims if putting it all together.

Our final SmartPlay runs in the following race (16:50) as we side with Sam Da Vinci in the hope that he can register a first success over hurdles. Willie Mullins' Zadarska is an obvious danger if bouncing back to her best, but she has been notably disappointing on both starts this year and is opposed with the relatively consistent Sam Da Vinci. Sam Da Vinci was a fair fifth at Bellewstown last time, follwoing on from two runner-up efforts, and wouldn't necessarily need to improve on the form he has shown to be competitive in this event.
