Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Finch to fly at the Curragh

The Curragh is the venue for today's SmartPlays.

Timeform's Irish team highlight a trio of SmartPlays at the Curragh on Sunday...

Atticus Finch shaped better than the bare result that day, doing too much too soon, and he is better judged on other form...

We get underway in the 15:20, where Famous Name, who recorded his nineteenth victory when dispatching Born to Sea in a Group 2 over 10 furlongs here last month, looks the one to beat and can add further to his impressive tally of wins. Declaration of War is the unknown, unbeaten in two starts last year in France and making his debut for Aidan O'Brien here, but he is entitled to need the run and this can go to Famous Name.

The Group 2 Blandford Stakes at 15:50 is the venue for the second of today's SmartPlays, with Up taken to see off her seven rivals. The three-year-old had plenty of solid efforts to her name this term prior to readily winning a Group 3 at this venue last month, making smooth headway to lead inside the final furlong. Nahrain would be a danger if back to her best, but she has something to prove after failing to fire in a couple of starts this year, and Up is taken to land the spoils.

Atticus Finch (16:55) has run on the all-weather on six of seven occasions that he has taken to the track, with his sole turf start being one of his lesser efforts. However he shaped better than the bare result that day, doing too much too soon, and he is better judged on other form. His handicap mark of 77 is an appealing one, and he can take this event for trainer Edward Lynam.
