Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Fiddle to play Some sweet music at Kilbeggan

Today's SmartPlays race at Kilbeggan this evening

The Timeform Irish team highlight three selections for tonight's evening meeting at Kilbeggan...

The extra furlong this evening looks sure to suit Some Fiddle and she is open to further improvement.

First up is Some Fiddle, who aims to get off the mark at the fourth attempt over hurdles in the 18:00. A bumper winner last term, Some Fiddle failed to make an impact in her first two starts. However, she shaped with more promise when third in a better maiden hurdle at Sligo last time, staying on having been left with too much to do. The extra furlong this evening looks sure to suit Some Fiddle and she is open to further improvement.

Kalico Kim likes it at this course having landed a bumper here and this corresponding race (19:30) last season. The John Ryan-trained mare looked in need of the outing when down the field on her reappearance earlier this month, but she is expected to be sharper now and the feeling is that she has been primed to take this race for the second year in a row.

Last but by no means least this evening is Lamb's Cross (20:30), who was an impressive winner of a two-and-a-half mile maiden hurdle at Worcester in 2010/11 for Nigel Twiston-Davies. It would be fair to say that Lamb's Cross has not exactly set the world alight over fences for his new yard, but he produced his best effort when not beaten far in third behind Mountain Lough in a handicap at Killarney on his reappearance and he looks capable of going close off the same mark.
