It's Kerry National day at Listowel and the Timeform Irish Team highlight three selections on day four of the Harvest Festival...
Clarkey has landed this event for the last two years, scoring off a 5 lb higher mark when successful last term....
Willie Mullins is best known for his all-conquering National Hunt team, but he has also had plenty of success of the Flat this term and Dougal Philps(14:25) looks all set to add to his trainer's tally. Runner-up on his first two starts this term, Dougal Philps justified market support when landing nine-furlong maiden at Ballinrobe in July, beating subsequent dual winner Jpevie by over four lengths. He was all set to contest a valuable handicap at Leopardstown earlier this month prior to being withdrawn after getting loose at the start and, with the testing conditions likely to offset the drop to seven-furlongs, he remains open to further improvement.
The listed Listowel Stakes at 14:55 looks an intriguing contest, with the returning Minsk and well-bred Tandem lining up, but we will side with Chamonix to come out on top. The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt has improved markedly with each run this term and showed himself to be a smart stayer when beating Demurely by six lengths in a heavy-ground listed race at Galway last time, despite idling in front. The similarly testing conditions will suit this afternoon and he remains unexposed.
The handicap chase at 16:40 features quite a few performers that have questions to answer at present, but the Christy Roche-trained Clarkey comes into this event having produced by far his best effort this season when runner-up to Claragh Native over hurdles at Downpatrick last time. Clarkey has landed this event for the past two years, scoring off a 5 lb higher mark when successful last term, and a bold bid is expected as he goes for a hat-trick of wins in this event.
