Timeform provide you with three selections from Navan on Sunday...
Our first bet at Navan comes in the opening near-six-furlong maiden (14:05) as we side with the regally-bred Household Cavalry. A half-brother to top-level winners Eagle Mountain and Dank, Household Cavalry made a perfectly satisfactory introduction when finishing in mid-division at the Curragh, shaping in the style of a horse that will improve enormously for the initial experience. Not ideally drawn, Household Cavalry tried to throw down a challenge a furlong out, but couldn't maintain the effort and weakened close home. He will improve on that performance and makes plenty of appeal in a wide-open maiden.
Fresh Focus may have finished last of six on his debut at the Curragh but that looked like a pretty hot contest and we will side with Jim Bolger's juvenile in the five-furlong two-year-old maiden at 15:05. Fresh Focus looked badly in need of the experience at the Curragh, slowly away and pushed along by halfway, but he did seem to get the hang of things late on, however, finishing to good effect and leaving the distinct impression that he would be a different proposition next time. He probably just about sets the standard of those with experience and, with improvement forthcoming, is worth backing.
Leading Light developed into a very smart colt last season, winning the St Leger, but it is possible that he will need the run in the Vintage Crop Stakes (16:05) as he builds up to a crack at the Ascot Gold Cup, and conceding weight will not be easy. The most appealing betting proposition is Pale Mimosa as she represents the red-hot yard of Dermot Weld and has run well fresh in the past, showing just about her best form when winning a listed race on return last season. There remains a hint of unfinished business surrounding the lightly-raced and scopey Pale Mimosa and she could yet improve further this year.
