Day two of the Galway Summer Festival comes under Timeform's inspection.
"The multi-talented Domination has been in excellent form on the Flat this summer and went close to landing a second chase win at Killarney two weeks ago."
Today's card at Galway gets off to an interesting start in the 17:05. Rich Coast was a listed-race winner on the Flat, but needed a few goes over hurdles to get the hang of things before running away with a Maiden at Tipperary last time out. He beat a fair performer by over three lengths that day and the rest were well behind. With plenty more likely to come and Noel Meade's yard amongst the winners, he is taken to beat the favourite Shield. The last named has shown talent over hurdles and his connections are always to be feared, but he has had plenty of runs over hurdles and may be vulnerable to the progressive selection.
The multi-talented Domination has been in excellent form on the Flat this summer and went close to landing a second chase win at Killarney two weeks ago. That was only his third steeplechase start and he is entitled to have improved for the experience. He will need to have done as he faces experienced chasers here, however he is probably the most talented horse in the field and the application of a visor should help. Cailin Annamh could do best of the rest as she was unlucky to be brought down when last seen and has been progressing nicely, while a better run from the veteran Muirhead is not out of the question.
We won't win any prizes for originality with this one, but Antique Platinum looks a banker in the closer at 20:15. With her main market rival having come out and the rest looking limited, she should build on the promise of her debut by justifying short odds here. Henson has shown ability in six starts and may enjoy the step back to seven furlongs, however it is hard to see past Dermot Weld's well-bred filly.
