Today's Horse Racing Tips: Go with Johnny to bag handicap win with Beat

Trainer Johnny Murtagh has been in flying form of late

No joy for Alan Dudman yesterday, but he is hoping to end his latest stint with a winner for Johnny Murtagh on Sunday at the Curragh...

"His return to action was a pleasing one last time at Naas behind the classy Make A Challenge. He was given a bit to do, which perhaps wasn't ideal with the way that race panned out."

Power can resume winning ways on return for Tregoning

13:35 Newmarket - Back Power Of Darkness @ 5.509/2

Marcus Tregoning's Power Of Darkness makes his first appearance of the campaign on Sunday, and he should be backed at 5.509/2 to make a winning return.

This looks a fairly open handicap, but the selection will have his conditions - a mile on fast ground.

His win record is impressive for a lightly-raced horse with four victories in just eight starts, but even in defeat he has performed well. I liked his run in a good race at Newmarket last May from 91, as he could have got closer with a bit of luck. He was also too keen in the run.

Coming back off a break is the one slight worry, as we never quite know how tuned-up they are. But he ran well last season on return, and Tregoning can take this en route to a race at Goodwood perhaps.

Murtagh can continue golden spell in Premier Handicap

15:45 Curragh - Back Urban Beat @ 5.509/2

Rain is forecast for Sunday at the Curragh, and I am hoping to get dig in the ground to improve the chances of Johnny Murtagh's Urban Beat in the Premier Handicap.

He's well up to winning a race of this nature judged on some of his efforts in Listed company last term, and for a smooth traveller to come from off the pace, he could have his ideal set-up from stall 15 here.

The stable is enjoying a red hot spell at the moment, and Murtagh has often spoke about this horse in glowing terms.

His return to action was a pleasing one last time at Naas behind the classy Make A Challenge. He was given a bit to do, which perhaps wasn't ideal with the way that race panned out.

He also acts at the track, and he went through a race here last October with plenty of class. The selection can be backed at 5.509/2, and he rates my bet of the day.
