"...he should prove difficult to beat..."

Timeform on Alignak

Back
Alignak - 14:05 Chester

Alignak signed off with an impressive, wide-margin win at Kempton on his final start last season, and he progressed again to make a successful handicap debut on his seasonal reappearance at Newcastle in June, doing well to prevail having been further back than ideal. He was only narrowly denied when upped to listed company at Haydock, beaten on the nod by Trueshan, and he was by no means disgraced when third behind a couple of three-year-olds (Hukum and Max Vega) in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes last time. This looks easier and he should prove difficult to beat.

Lay
Mancini - 15:15 Chester

Mancini ran right up to his best when scoring at Sandown in July, winning by two and three-quarter lengths with a degree of authority. He was given a good ride on that occasion, however, as he was given a breather before being sent for home, and he has gone up 3 lb in the weights. He's on a mark from which he should remain competitive, but he's not especially well treated and simply looks too short at around the 6/5 mark. Daawy shapes as though this trip should suit and makes greater appeal, while Overhaugh Street has a good record here and is another who can be given a chance.

Smart Stat
Sands In Time - 13:30 Chester

3 - Richard Fahey's number of winners in the past seven runnings

Richard Fahey won this three times in a row between 2014 and 2016, including with Gabrial The Tiger and Stamp Hill, who both developed into useful handicappers. He is represented this time by Sands In Time, who is out of a half-sister to the yard's Group 1-winning sprinter Sands of Mali. He shaped with clear promise when runner-up on debut over this course and distance, and he's entitled to improve for the experience.
