Timeform on Magical Effect

14:00 - The very well-bred QUEEN'S ORDER (10) shaped really well on her debut over C&D three weeks ago and could be hard to beat if building on that as expected. Moon Power is an interesting newcomer for Karl Burke and needs monitoring in the market.

14:30 - HEREBY (9) continued the theme of run-to-run progression when making a winning handicap debut at Chester last time, landing some nice bets in the process. There was plenty to like about that performance, too, doing well under the circumstances, not getting the clearest of runs but showing a good attitude to get on top close home. She's in good hands, and there should be even more to come. Mark Johnston has a good record in this race and Asian Angel needs considering as a result.

15:00 - STORMIN NORMAN (5) relished the step up to 17f when supplementing his Ripon success at Carlisle a fortnight ago and a 9 lb rise may not prevent the hat-trick. Forewarning was disappointing last time but enters the reckoning on his runner-up effort over C&D prior to that.

15:30 - PERFECTION (2) won three times last season and has proved at least as good as ever this time round, running some solid races in pattern company, including when a neck second to Billesdon Brook in a Group 3 at Goodwood last time. She had no excuses on the day, but that level of form makes her very interesting back in listed company, and the drop to six furlongs will also suit at this stiff track. Shades of Blue is a solid operator and looks a big danger.

16:00 - GLOBAL HUNTER (1) has made the perfect start to his career, following up his debut success at Windsor with another success under a penalty at Salisbury last time, still showing signs of inexperience but leaving the impression that there is a fair bit more to come yet, in control when hanging inside the final furlong. The form of that race is working out well, too, with the third, fourth and fifth all winning their next starts. An opening mark of 95 doesn't look excessive and Global Hunter is fancied to maintain his unbeaten record.

16:30 - REACTION TIME (2) made plenty of appeal on paper - out of a half-sister to the top-class Ravens Pass - and shaped well on debut at Sandown last season, faring best of the newcomers where experience and position counted for a lot. It is a slight concern he is only making his reappearance now, but he rates the type to improve a fair bit, and it is interesting that his leading connections are persevering with him.

17:00 - MAGICAL EFFECT (1) took advantage of a falling mark and ended a long losing run over this C&D in July and has shaped well on both starts since, doing well to finish third back over this C&D from a difficult draw in a stronger handicap than this last time. He has fared much better with the draw this time round, and a repeat performance will see him bang in the mix, clearly at home under conditions.

17:30 - There should be more to come from three-year-old SPRINGWOOD DRIVE (8) back at this trip, so she's an appealing candidate to follow up from Haydock. Juanito Chico has fallen to an attractive mark and is reunited with Silvester de Sousa, so must enter the reckoning, along with Esprit de Corps, who has the ability to end his long losing run.
