Timeform on Minella Trump

12:30 - MILLIE THE MINX (3) sets the standard on weight-adjusted ratings and could be the way to go in this opening leg of the Placepot, arriving here on the back of a couple of respectable Flat runs and wind surgery. Christmas In Usa is feared most with a reappearance spin under his belt, with Sweet Marmalade needing close market scrutiny on debut for Brian Ellison.

13:00 - Keith Dalgliesh has his team in fine form at present and is likely to have high hopes of adding to his tally here with GOLDENCARD (1). He has improved over hurdles of late, supplementing his Kelso success in determined style at Musselburgh eight days ago, and is fancied to give weight and a beating to his seven rivals if proving as effective over the larger obstacles. Ringaringarosie is a likeable mare who arrives in good heart and heads the list of dangers, whilst Torrid is worth a check in the betting for his shrewd yard.

13:35 - MINELLA TRUMP (10) was bought by these connections for £90,000 after winning an Irish point in March, when scoring decisively by six lengths for the John Nallen academy that has already produced top talents under Rules such as Minella Indo and Minella Rocco. Minella Trump has a long way to go if he is going to match their exploits, but he is clearly a bright prospect and looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to make a successful hurdling debut under Brian Hughes, who has an impressive 23% strike rate when riding at Sedgefield in recent years. Order of Thistle, who's expected to improve from his initial hurdling effort, could provide the main danger ahead of Masters Apprentice.

14:10 - The only runner making the long journey north for Neil Mulholland today, LA CAVSA NOSTRA (5) was impressive when getting off the mark over fences on his return at Chepstow, asserting three out and ultimately well on top at the finish. That effort identified him very much one to follow, and, though let down by his jumping at Warwick last time (unseated at the fifth when in front), he is well worth another chance to get back on the up. He's preferred to the in-form Cairnshill, while Fortified Bay appeals as the type to take to chasing at the first attempt, so he's on the radar, too.

14:45 - BRYDEN BOY (2) has come down a long way in the weights over the course of the last two and half years or so, now fully 18 lb lower than when recording his last win at Doncaster in March 2017. He is entitled to strip fitter for his return in a higher grade at Aintree and would appear to hold sound claims if reproducing anything like his best form down at this lowly level, with this longer trip expected to prove well within his range, too. Lord Ballim and Point N Shoot are feared most of the remainder.

15:15 - MISDFLIGHT (4) folded tamely up the Hexham hill last time, but the fact he briefly looked in control suggests he can do something off this mark, and, 4 lb clear of the field on weight-adjusted ratings here, he's likely to find few better opportunities than this to resume winning ways, with the tongue tie back on in the hope of helping him to find more at the business end. Rollerball Rocco should strip fitter for his reappearance and looks best of the rest, while a market move for the returning Spirit of Hale would make him of interest.

15:50 - Keith Dalgleish is fancied to bring up his double on the day courtesy of GLORIOUS LADY (6) in the finale. She wasn't seen to best effect when second on her handicap bow over C&D last month, never able to get on terms with the thriving winner (who was allowed to dominate), and her scope for further progress suggests that a BHA mark of 113 is unlikely to prove beyond her on another day. Kingrullah and Iolani complete the shortlist.
