13:10 - MYWAYISTHEONLYWAY (18) shaped better than the bare result when fourth on his most recent outing at Newcastle, forced to deliver his challenge from further back than ideal and doing well under the circumstances to finish as close as he did, never nearer than the length and three quarters he was beaten at the line. A narrow leader on weight-adjusted ratings here, he certainly showed enough to suggest that he is up to ending his long losing run sooner rather than later, and, back at the scene of his first handicap success in 2016, this looks a good opportunity for him to do just that, with the very strong pace forecast likely to play into his hands.
13:40 - ALPEN ROSE (1) made a promising debut when runner-up over seven furlongs at Newmarket and Charlie Appleby's daughter of Sea The Stars can go one better here over this longer trip. Choicely-bred newcomer Ruby Shield should ensure she doesn't have things all her own way, however, and Stars In The Sky is also fancied to go well on her second start.
14:15 - A real mixed bag for this novice, with FUTURISTIC (3) appealing most given that he's a well-bred Shamardal colt from an in-form yard that can ready its newcomers. Fellow debutant Mutafawwig also appeals as a likely sort on paper and is rated next best ahead of Roger Fell's Irish winner Double Martini.
14:50 - Simon Crisford has a terrific record when having just one runner at a meeting (£87.28 level-stakes profit), and it could be worth taking a chance on his DOUBLE KODIAC (11) as he lines up in this fourth leg of the Placepot. Admittedly, he hasn't been seen since chasing home subsequent German 2000 Guineas winner Fox Champion at Newmarket in April, but his yard is well capable of readying one after a break, and, starting out in handicaps from a potentially lenient mark judged on the balance of his form, he is fancied to give Crisford a timely confidence boost ahead of A'Ali's bid for Group 1 glory on Sunday.
15:25 - Paul Midgley has won the last two renewals of this race, including 12 months ago with ORVAR (5), for whom an obvious case can be made in his follow-up bid. While it's fair to say that his form figures this season don't inspire much confidence, he has often shaped as if retaining all of his ability, including when fourth in a competitive heat at the Curragh in June, and there will be no excuses if he can't put it all together today, now 4 lb lower than when winning here last year, with the booking of Oisin Murphy, who continues to go great guns in his quest for a maiden jockeys' championship, also catching the eye.
16:00 - A competitive handicap to conclude proceedings in the Placepot, despite there being only five runners. MOLL DAVIS (3) enjoyed no luck at all when fifth at Goodwood last time and she can make amends here with in-form pair Tabassor and Kingson fancied to chase her home.
16:35 - Preference in the finale is for DELPH CRESCENT (5), who continues to slip down the weights and left the impression that his turn may be near when fourth in a higher grade handicap art Ripon 12 days ago. Detachment has put in good shifts at Beverley on both starts since joining this yard and he is feared, along with Geranium, who resumed winning ways at Sandown last month.
