12:45 - LAXEY (8) hasn't been given a lenient opening mark but he looks the type to progress markedly now stepped up in trip. He posted his best effort in novice hurdles when finishing runner-up at Warwick on his latest start in April, seeming to benefit from a change in tactics and a front-running ride. That run suggested he was crying out for a stiffer test of stamina, and he can leave his previous form well behind now granted a suitable test. Also in his favour is the good form of the Henry Daly yard.
13:15 - This is an intriguing contest, featuring plenty of interesting types, but CHAMPAGNE COURT (1) gets the verdict on his chase debut having made a highly encouraging reappearance in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow. He showed ability last season, notably finishing fourth in the conditional jockeys' handicap at the Cheltenham Festival, but he produced a career best at Chepstow and looks the type to improve further for the switch to fences. At Its Own Expense also ran well to finish runner-up last time, albeit in a lesser event, and he is regarded as one of the biggest dangers.
13:50 - It's difficult to oppose PROTEKTORAT (9), who sets a decent standard based on his second in a French listed race. He caught the eye when finishing down the field behind Fusil Raffles in the Adonis Hurdle on his final start last season, shaping better than the bare result, and this looks a good opportunity to get off the mark. He has had a wind operation since last seen and remains capable of better.
14:25 - SANTINI (1) was an excellent second in a stellar edition of the RSA Chase on his final start last season and can make a winning return. The lightly-raced seven-year-old remains capable of even better over fences and is viewed as a genuine Cheltenham Gold Cup contender so should be difficult to beat. Talkischeap was an impressive winner of the Bet365 Gold Cup at this course so is the obvious threat.
14:55 - EBONY GALE (6) failed to stay when beaten over 2m5f at Wincanton on his final start last season so should be a different proposition having been dropped in trip. He returns off a 3 lb lower mark and appears to have a good chance based on his second to Cliffs of Dover on New Year's Day. He should go well if running to a similar level. Totterdown catches the eye on his first start for Fergal O'Brien and has attracted strong market support so is a danger.
15:30 - ABOLITIONIST (1) was pulled up in the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival on his most recent outing in March, but he can be forgiven that effort as he went off too hard, and he is much better judged on his two previous efforts for the yard. He was an impressive winner on his first start for Richard Newland, when cashing in on a reduced hurdles mark at Aintree, and then shaped much better than the result would indicate over fences at Newbury, travelling well before a lack of fitness seemingly took a toll on his return from a break. He appeals as the type to do well in veterans' events.
16:00 - DOIN'WHATSHELIKES (8) showed ability in points, most notably when finishing runner-up on her latest outing, and she makes appeal for the in-form Paul Nicholls yard. Nicholls can boast a level-stakes profit with his bumper debutants so his newcomers always merit consideration.
