17:30 - DREAMWEAVER (4) wasn't seen to best effect when runner-up at Lingfield last month and is still relatively low-mileage. He can return to winning ways in this opening leg of the Placepot, with Ad Libitum and Brandy Spirit likely to emerge as the chief threats.
18:00 - WISE RULER (3) has improved with each run to date and got off the mark quite readily on the most recent of them here last month, in command entering the final furlong and just kept up to his work thereafter to win by two and three quarter lengths. That looked a deep minor event for the time of year - the runner-up Entrusting brought a fairly useful level of form into the race - and Wise Ruler certainly showed enough to suggest that he is not to be underestimated now starting out in handicaps from a BHA mark of 86, with his strength at the finish offering every indictation that the extra two furlongs here could bring about further progress, representing the Simon Crisford yard that invariably gets the job done when sending only one runner to a meeting (level stakes profit of £114.90).
18:30 - Ben Haslam is another trainer who has proved profitable to follow when represented by just the one runner at a meeting, and, with the Placepot in mind, it could be worth taking a chance on his FORTAMOUR (4) as he lines up in this seven-furlong maiden. Admittedly, he showed only modest form when seventh on his debut at Redcar back in May, but his SP on that occasion suggests that he had been showing ability at home, and, gelded in the interim, it would be no surprise if he proved capable of living up to his useful pedigree second-time-up, in a race that is unlikely to take much winning (standard set by the favourite is only a fair one).
19:00 - FAAKHIRAH (4) showed plenty of ability when runner-up at Yarmouth last month, easily faring best of the newcomers, and she could be useful if progressing as expected with that experience under her belt. Clegane stepped up on her first run when an eye-catching sixth at Windsor and is the obvious threat.
19:30 - FIERY MISSION (7) is in good hands and appeals as the type to improve now sent handicapping, having shaped better than the bare result when only fourth at Carlisle last time (still looked green and not ideally placed given how the race developed). He can open his account in this penultimate leg of the Placepot at the expense of Toro Dorado, who is only 3 lb higher than when beaten just a nose at Kempton last time, and Insurplus.
20:00 - Making a quick switch to handicaps in first-time cheekpieces, INDRA DAWN (14) showed much improved form when second at Lingfield three weeks ago, shaping well into the bargain in doing comfortably best of the trio to race on the stand rail, beaten a little over a length at the line with another three back to the third. That form is already working out well, with the fourth improving to win his next start at Chepstow, and Indra Dawn certainly showed enough to suggest that he may prove capable of doing likewise from only 2 lb higher here, still open to plenty of improvement in his own right if the change of headgear (blinkers replace cheekpieces) has the desired effect.
20:30 - SOMEONE EXCITING (14) isn't one to trusty fully, but she resumed winning ways at Catterick last month, looking more straightforward than has sometimes been in the case, so could follow up from her much lower all-weather mark. Gorgeous General was soon back to form at Southwell and ought to remain competitive, while Swiss Connection looks to be coming to the boil.
