Friday's most backed horse is a consistent front-running 3yo making his Kempton debut this evening. Are you following the money?
Kempton's competitive-looking 2m Handicap at 19:15 is the race where we find today's most backed horse.
The colt in question is Pons Aelius, a progressive and consistent three-year-old for the all-conquering Charlie & Mark Johnston stable.
The Johnston yard sent out its 5,000th British winner last month and in the last few weeks they've saddled winners at 20/1, 18/1, 11/1, 10/1 and 9/1 twice among others.
But it's a much shorter-price runner that is attracting support today, having opened at 15/4 on the Betfair Sportsbook, Pons Aelius has been backed all the way down to his current quote of 9/5.
A typically tough Johnston stayer
Remarkably for a stayer, this will be the three-year-old's 12th start this season, but having won three times already this year and never being out of the frame in his last seven starts, his consistency and quality at this level is there for all to see.
Perhaps the key to him today is the return to 2m where he looks set to have an uncontested lead around Kempton's polytrack surface, and many punters fancy he won't be caught.
It's a well-known view that Johnston's front-running stayers are very tough to pass, and should Pons Aelius improve slightly for his polytrack debut then he looks set to give his many followers a very big run for their money.
