Through The Card: Goodwood, Sunday August 27
Timeform take you through the card at Goodwood on Sunday.
14:10 - IBN AL EMARAT (2) has improved with each run to date and the form of his latest second at Chelmsford sets a clear standard on Timeform ratings. He rates by far the most solid proposition in this opening leg of the Placepot. Lucifugous is better judged on her previous effort, and is marginally preferred to newcomer Zappa for forecast purposes.
14:45 - ICONIC BELLE (7) isn't progressing, but her claims are there for all to see on these advantageous terms eased in grade. Soft ground was perhaps against Delannoy last time and he looks best of the remainder if bouncing back here.
15:20 - ANYTHINGTODAY (2) was a decisive winner of his penultimate outing at Bath and produced an even better effort in defeat when third under a penalty at Newmarket just three days later. He may have finished closer but for trouble in-running that day and, while the lightly-raced Eynhallow is an obvious danger here, Anythingtoday looks sure to be thereabouts if continuing his progress and is taken to regain the winning thread for the Hugo Palmer yard.
15:55 - CITY GROUND (11) was below form when down the field at Windsor last time, but he has now dropped to a mark 4 lb lower than when winning at Leicester in April and should be thereabouts if ridden more positively by Serena Brotherton here. Believe It could be the biggest danger if he gets home over this trip, leaving Unison and perhaps Biotic to fight it out for the minor places.
16:30 - DUTCH CONNECTION (1) failed to meet market expectations when only sixth in the Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh last time, but he had his excuses on the day, unable to gain any cover and that along with the slow early gallop ensured he was too keen early. His best form leaves him 8 lb clear of the field on Timeform ratings in this penultimate leg of the Placepot and Jim Crowley's mount would, therefore, appear to hold sound claims if bouncing back in a weak renewal of this Group 3.
17:05 - NATHANIA (4) failed to get a clear run at a crucial stage when half a length second at Salisbury last time and remains potentially well treated from just 1 lb higher in the weights here. She makes most appeal with the Placepot in mind for the in-form Richard Hughes yard (three winners from his last eight runners). Lady Bergamot is not passed over lightly and looks a very serious danger.
17:40 - OPERATIVE (2) has been unable to put his races to bed the last twice, but has looked comfortably ahead of his mark on each occasion and the assistance of Silvestre de Sousa in the saddle could make all the difference in the finale.
