Bets of the Day: Mobsta gets the vote against Justice
Alan Thompson is back in the hot seat for this week and he is hoping he has retained some of the form shown on his previous week. It's Newmarket and Uttoxeter for today's selections...
"The horse to beat is Justice Good, who has been competing in Group 3 company and will no doubt find this easier, but at 2/1 in what I consider a match bet I am happy to take Mobsta to win."
Mick Channon runs his three-year-old colt Mobsta in this conditions race over six furlongs at Newmarket in what looks like a match against Justice Good for the David Elsworth yard. The two are well ahead on ratings and unless something runs 20lb better than it has done before they should be fighting out the finish.
Mobsta showed plenty of ability as a two-year-old then wasn't seen on a course again for almost a year but has run well on three starts since that break. Interesting that the Channon team are running him again after just a six day break and returning to six furlongs, which should suit and as he looks like he would prefer to get his toe into the ground the conditions should be ideal today. The horse to beat is Justice Good, who has been competing in Group 3 company and will no doubt find this easier, but at 2/1 in what I consider a match bet I am happy to take Mobsta to win.
This is a competitive handicap no doubt but the favourite Lady of Longstone, who is going for a hattrick after back-to-back wins at Worcester has to carry a 7lb penalty and this looks a tougher race. I wanted to oppose her and while the option to simply lay the horse on the exchange is appealing, especially if she goes off shorter than [3.0], I was really looking for one to take her on at a decent price.
After looking through the field I decided on Kim Bailey's runner Magic Money who returns to defend the crown she won last year and is one pound lower this time. Also, David Bass gets the leg up and he has an excellent 20% success rate when riding for the Bailey yard. At 10/1 I would rather take my chances backing Magic Money each way than a straight lay of the favourite.
